Friends Summer Opera: Behind the Aria

This year, Chiswick House Friends will present a two night open-air opera event, performed by Focus Opera.  Performing for the first time in Chiswick House Gardens, this new professional touring company will have a larger stage, enhanced sound system and an exciting new production.

Picnic All Evening

The entire rear lawn of the House is reserved for ticket holders from 6.00pm. Set up your chairs and picnic and enjoy a magical evening celebrating summer with friends.

Bring your own picnic, or buy picnic food and hot beverages from The Company of Cooks' stall on the night, as well as champagne, wine and beer from the Fuller's stall.

Behind the Aria

A wealth of thrilling musical highlights is promised, uniquely woven into a story about a young singer and her adventures when she auditions for a new part.

In this fantastical tale the young vocalist arrives backstage for the audition and a strange world emerges; a world of love, often unrequited, of despair, jealousy and anger. This is a world of song where singers appear and disappear. Our heroine meets a dancer who never speaks, but like Alice's white rabbit, the dancer leads her through the maze of songs - all performed by international singers and the Focus Opera Chamber Orchestra.

Behind the Aria offers something for all tastes highlighting the glories of grand Opera and Operetta; Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Bizet, Lehar. And will include gems from the world of Musical Theatre; Gershwin, Bernstein, Sondheim and Schönberg.
